The Xovis APF is an automatic passenger counting (APC) sensor for public transport vehicles: buses, trams and trains. Mounted above the vehicle door, it uses vision-based embedded AI to count boarding and alighting passengers with up to 99% accuracy and can meet the VDV 457-2 accuracy requirements (manufacturer data).

Built for vehicles

• Two power versions: APF-POE-M12D (Power over Ethernet, IEEE 802.3af) and APF-DC-M12D (12 to 36 V DC)
• Mounting height 1.90 to 3.50 m, door widths 1.60 to 6.00 m depending on height, tilt up to ±15°
• Semi-recessed mounting through a 68 to 76 mm hole; surface and tilt mount adapters available
• Aluminium housing, IP65, operating temperature -25 °C to +55 °C (Criterion A, EN 50155)
• M12 D-coded connectors, 100 Mbit/s Ethernet, typical power consumption 8 W
• Weight approx. 350 g including cover; white, grey or black front cover

Integration and privacy

The APF integrates with on-board systems via ITxPT and IBIS-IP (VDV 301) and a REST API with Swagger documentation, with remote access through Xovis HUB. All processing happens on the device and only text data is transmitted, with four privacy modes for GDPR-compliant operation. Data can be stored on the sensor for up to 3 years, depending on the number of counts and stops per day.

Railway: EN 50155:2021. Fire safety: EN 45545-2 (Hazard Level 3), UNECE R118. EMC: EN 50121-3-2, UN ECE R10 (E1) for road vehicles. Cyber security: IEC 62443-4-2 Level 2, secure boot. Security updates are provided for the product life or at least until December 2036.
