The Milesight EM400-TLD is a Time-of-Flight (ToF) laser distance sensor for smart waste bins and small containers in shopping centres, offices, campuses and public spaces. Mounted under the lid, it measures the fill level from 2 to 350 cm, detects whether the lid is open or tilted, and raises an alarm on high temperature, so bins are emptied when they are full rather than on fixed rounds. Choose LoRaWAN or NB-IoT/Cat M.

Sensor and software: what you get
On the sensor: distance/fill level, lid status, temperature alarms and, on the cellular version, location. In software: fill-level dashboards, alerts and emptying reports. Use the EM400-TLD with VemSpace, which comes with a 60-day free trial (see software plans). The hardware price does not include a software licence.
Installation and accessories
Screw the sensor on a flat surface under the bin lid or on top of the container, pointing straight down at the contents. The LoRaWAN version needs a gateway on the same frequency plan, such as the UG65 or the outdoor UG67. For water leak and temperature monitoring see the EM300 series.

Is the Milesight EM400-TLD ultrasonic?
No. The EM400-TLD uses a Time-of-Flight laser. Milesight's ultrasonic distance sensors are other models.
What is the measuring range of the EM400-TLD?
2 to 350 cm with ±2 cm accuracy, designed by Milesight especially for small trash bins.
Can it detect a bin fire?
It has a temperature sensor (−40 to +125 °C) that can trigger a high-temperature alarm.
LoRaWAN or NB-IoT?
LoRaWAN where you have or plan a gateway; NB-IoT/Cat M for scattered bins with mobile coverage and a SIM per sensor.
