The Milesight VS135 is a Time-of-Flight (ToF) people counter for store, mall and transit entrances, indoors and in covered semi-outdoor areas. Second-generation ToF and deep learning count people in and out with up to 99.8% accuracy from a depth map, so no images of people are captured. It separates adults, children and staff, and connects over PoE, LoRaWAN or 4G.

Key features

  • Up to 99.8% counting accuracy with second-generation ToF and AI.
  • Depth map only, no image capture.
  • Bi-directional counting, U-turn filtering, regional counting and dwell time.
  • Children and adult differentiation, staff detection with the VA31 lanyard.
  • Standard version up to 3.5 m mounting height (98° x 80° field of view); high ceiling mount version 2 to 6.5 m (60° x 45°).
  • IP65 rated for indoor and semi-outdoor use; built-in radar for low-power sleep when the area is empty.
  • Connectivity: PoE (with alarm I/O, HTTP, MQTT, multi-device stitching up to 4), LoRaWAN or 4G cellular.
  • 3-axis sensor for automatic tilt compensation; local storage and data retransmission.

Works with

Vemcount for footfall, conversion and queue management, and VemSpace for occupancy. Accessories: VB02 tilt bracket, VA31 staff lanyard. LoRaWAN version: UG65 gateway. 4G version without fixed internet: UR32L router for the PoE model.

Replacing an existing counter?

The VS135 replaces thermal and older ToF counters such as Irisys Vector and Gazelle, Brickstream 2300 and 2500, and first-generation FootfallCam units in the same mounting position, and works where a stereo camera is not wanted for privacy reasons. Vemco handles the migration of your historical data. Ask about a replacement project.

How it compares

Technology In this shop Privacy Mounting height Light conditions Best for
Time-of-Flight (ToF) Milesight VS133, VS135 Depth map only, no images Up to 3.5 m; 6.5 m on the VS135 high ceiling version Own infrared light, works in darkness Store entrances where privacy matters
3D stereo vision Milesight VS125, Xovis PC2SE, Xovis PF-L Images processed on the sensor, only counts are sent About 2 to 6 m, higher with the Xovis PC3SE Needs some light; the VS125 adds infrared Busy and wide entrances, groups, children and demographics
Thermal Older installed counters Heat image, no identifiable images Low to medium ceilings Independent of light, affected by warm air and sunlight Legacy sites being replaced
Dual PIR Milesight VS350 No images Around 3 m, ceiling or wall Independent of light Fitting rooms, restrooms, narrow passages
2D AI camera TD Intelligence TD1001, VC-2D Images processed on the device About 2.3 to 5 m Needs normal indoor light Low traffic sites, age and gender analytics

Planning the installation

Mount the VS135 centred over the entrance and pointing straight down, no higher than 3.5 m (the high ceiling version covers 2 to 6.5 m). The mistakes we see most often are mounting off-centre so part of the doorway falls outside the field of view, fixing the sensor next to a door closer, hanging sign or display that blocks the view, and mounting above the rated height. For PoE keep the cable run under 100 m from the switch, for LoRaWAN check gateway coverage first, and for 4G check the signal at ceiling height. After mounting, Vemco sets the counting line and validates the counts with the remote calibration and validation service.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Milesight VS135 capture images of people?
No. It counts from a depth map made by its Time-of-Flight sensor, so no images of people are captured or stored.

What mounting height does the VS135 need?
The standard version works up to 3.5 m with a 98° x 80° field of view. For ceilings from 2 to 6.5 m choose the VS135 high ceiling version.

Can the VS135 be used outdoors?
It is IP65 rated for indoor and semi-outdoor entrances such as a covered entrance or canopy. For fully exposed outdoor entrances choose the VS125 Outdoor (IP67).

Should I choose PoE, LoRaWAN or 4G?
PoE for sites with a network cable, alarm I/O and multi-device stitching. LoRaWAN for wireless sites with a Milesight UG65 or UG67 gateway. 4G where no network is available.

How do I stop staff being counted?
Staff wear the VA31 lanyard and the VS135 removes them from the visitor count automatically.

Do I need a software licence?
Yes. Counts are shown in Vemcount, which is licensed on the Vemco platform with a 60-day free trial.

Ideal applications: retail stores, airports and transit hubs, education and libraries, public spaces, semi-outdoor entrances.
